GREENSBORO – The West All-Star football team includes five players from Greater Hickory area conferences – two of them from North Lincoln High – for a July game against the East.
West head coach Doug Robertson, whose staff includes St. Stephens head coach Wayne Hicks and former Hibriten head coach Chuck Cannon (now an assistant at Wilkes Central), includes:
— Linebacker Jake Soorus (5-11, 190 pounds) and offensive lineman Joe Elberti (5-11, 250) of North Lincoln.
Sorrus had 29 solo tackles and 25 assists for the Knights last season, plus 14 ½ tackles for lost yardage, 2 ½ sacks, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. He also played running back (1,025 yards, 11 touchdowns).
CANNON
Elberti led an offensive line that helped North Lincoln averaged 397.6 yards per game and 7.9 rushing per carry.
— Two players from the Northwestern 3A-4A, Watauga safety Jaiden Bond (5-9, 185) and Alexander Central running back Steven Montgomery (5-7, 175).
Bond had 42 solo tackles, 31 assists, one sack, three interceptions and four fumble recoveries last season for Watauga.
Montgomery rushed 192 times for 1,950 yards for Alexander Central averaging 162.5 yards per game, and caught 11 passes for 102 yards and two scores.
— Hibriten offensive lineman Jacob Clark (6-2, 280). He helped the Panthers rush for 8.2 yards per carry last season and nearly 300 yards per game and 380 per game in total offense.
The game is scheduled July 22 at Greensboro Grimsley’s Jamieson Stadium with an 8 p.m. kickoff.
