MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Queens deals Lenoir-Rhyne first loss of season

HICKORY – Queens University continued its stronghold in a series against the Lenoir-Rhyne University men on Wednesday night, beating the host Bears 76-69 in a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) basketball game between nationally ranked teams.

The Royals (6-2, 1-0), ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II, beat the 17th-ranked Bears (7-1, 11) for the 10th time in 12 meetings and for the fifth straight time at Shuford Gym.

LRU returns to SAC play Wednesday night at 8 p.m., facing Carson-Newman on the road.

Daniel Carr scored 19 points, Shaun Willett added 10 and Lewis Diankulu had 17 points on 8-of-8 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Queens.

Cory Thomas led LRU with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He hit six of his 15 shots and provided four rebounds and four steals. Djibril Diallo added 16 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Bears.

LRU shot a season-low 24 percent (6 of 25) from 3-point range.
