MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Anderson nips Lenoir-Rhyne, leaving Bears 2-2 in conference play

ANDERSON, S.C. – Gage Ellis had a double-double and Shawn Bernard was a rebound away from one on Saturday, leading Anderson (S.C.) past Lenoir-Rhyne University 74-69 in men’s basketball.

Ellis had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Bernard had 17 points and nine rebounds as the Trojans (6-4, 2-2) won at home after scoring 44 of their points in the opening half of a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) game.

LRU, dropping to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the league, had four players reach double digits. Djibril Diallo had 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Mason Hawks had 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while Coy Thomas scored 11 points and R.J. Gunn added 10.

LRU shot 43.5 percent and made six of 22 shots from 3-point range.

The Bears play their final game of 2018 on Wednesday with a 12:30 p.m. tipoff at Belmont Abbey.
