INDIANAPOLIS – A 40-second play clock is coming to high school football and there’s an option – state organizations will each get to decide – for instant replay to be added to officials’ reviews in state playoff games.

The announcements were part of changes announced on Monday by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSHSA), the governing body for prep athletics in the nation.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) is a part of the NFSHSA and implements rule changes that come from the NFSHSA on an annual basis.

To review or consider implementing any level of instant replay in North Carolina postseason games would require approval of the NCHSAA board of directors, whose next meeting is in May.

The instant replay option is now open for only state playoff games.
