St. Stephens High linebacker Chance Benfield (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) will play college football at Lenoir-Rhyne University next season. He had 60 tackles and 52 assists last season, including six tackles for lost yardage, and had 10 or more tackles in five games – against Fred T. Foard (12), Freedom (13), McDowell (10), Alexander Central (12) and Hickory (10). He also recorded five sacks, recovered three fumbles, blocked a punt and had two interceptions and provided two defensive scores in a win over Bunker Hill.
