Hickory High’s Aaliyah Deaton (front row, center) is headed to play college women’s lacrosse at Belmont Abbey College via an academic and athletic scholarship. She was joined at her signing ceremony by her family — her father, Shawn Deaton, her mother, Marcie Jenkins, and her grandmother Nadine Jenkins — plus her coach Jane Leonard, Hickory athletic director David Craft, some of her teachers, HHS principal Katherine Morningstar and some friends. “Her athletic abilities combined with her work ethic have helped mold Aaliyah into the lacrosse player she is, today; and I am extremely proud of her for taking her lacrosse career to the next level,” said Leonard. “Aaliyah is a team player and has continued to achieve big plays for us in high competition games. I know she will be a great addition to the Belmont Abbey roster.”/HICKORY PUBLIC SCHOOLS PHOTO
