East Burke High announced on Sunday it is moving its varsity football game against Newton-Conover scheduled for Oct. 1 to Saturday, Oct. 2, with a noon kickoff.
The move came as the Cavs continue to deal with COVID and against their schedule. They have played two games, winning 14-6 at Patton on Aug. 20 and falling 14-13 at home against Freedom on Aug. 27.
Since then, East Burke has cancelled a game at Draughn and postponed a home game against Maiden to Sept. 28, a Tuesday night.
The Cavs are scheduled to visit Bandys on Friday night for a Catawba Valley 2A Athletic game. After playing Maiden on Sept. 28, East Burke could not play Newton-Conover as scheduled. North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) rules say there must be at least three days between games.
Hibriten adds games
Hibriten announced it will play a home varsity game on Friday night rather than have an open date.
The Panthers will face Southlake Christian at 7:30 p.m. in Lenoir.
Hibriten has also added a junior varsity game on Thursday against Alexander Central. The Northwestern 3A-4A rivals will also meet Oct. 21 at Alexander Central.
