KERNERSVILLE – Two of the top boys’ cross country team spots were landed by South Fork 2A on Saturday at the state championship races at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex.
North Lincoln won the boys’ title with 58 points – led by Brian Risse’s third-place finish in 16 minutes, 12.07 seconds, and Lake Norman Charter was third (128) behind second-place team First Flight on a 5K course.
Risse had two other teammates in the top 15 – Jason Thomas (16:36.90, 11th) and Johnny Grant (16:45.10, 15th) – and the Knights also had runners finish at No. 23 and No. 24 as they earned the school’s third boys’ state cross country title.
Lake Norman Charter’s top individual time came from Derek Bole in 16:49.02 to take 15th.
East Lincoln, also from the South Fork 2A, finished ninth in the team standings.
