KERNERSVILLE – Lake Norman Charter High’s girls had the top two finishers to win the state 2A cross country title, while North Lincoln had three runners in the top six to take second place.
Mariah Howlett of Lake Norman Charter won the individual title on a 5K course at Ivey Redmon Sports complex on Saturday in 18 minutes, 03.43 seconds. Her teammate, Izzy Evely, ran was second in 18:07.57, and Abbey Farris added an eight-place finish in 19:32.06 for Lake Norman Charter.
Lake Norman Charter finished with 66 points, eight ahead of North Lincoln.
The top finishes for North Lincoln were Chandler McCaslin (18:43.65, third), Alysaa Galvin (19:11.64, fifth) and Angie Allen (19:15.47, sixth).
Bandys’ Sarah Faith McAllister claimed 11th place (19:34.01) and Caroline Hilliard of Bunker Hill was 12th (10:38.22).
