LENOIR — Hibriten High announced Tuesday night it won’t be playing any football games this week because of COVID-related concerns.

The Panthers were scheduled to face West Caldwell in a junior varsity game on Wednesday night at Hibriten but the game is cancelled.

On Friday night, the Panthers varsity was scheduled to play at Shelby but that game is also cancelled, athletic director Derek Reeves said in an e-mail.

Hibriten has played three JV games this season, losing 30-0 at East Lincoln, falling 36-13 at Hickory and Wilkes Central won 36-13 at Hibriten.

The next scheduled JV game for the Panthers is Sept. 16, facing South Caldwell in a non-conference game on the road (the teams are also scheduled to play on Oct. 28, a league game at Hibriten).

Hibriten’s varsity is 1-1 with a 39-7 loss at home against East Lincoln and a 39-25 road win at West Caldwell.

The Panthers cancelled an Aug. 27 home game with Hunter Huss, and they will have an open date on Sept. 24.
