MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Oglesby scores 27 as Red Hawks win in tournament

HUDSON – Guard Tyrell Oglesby scored a career-high 27 points on Saturday as Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) defeated Combine Academy 98-93 in the Chick-Fil-A Classic men’s basketball tournament.

CVCC (3-3) rebounded from a Friday loss in the tournament, played at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI).

The Red Hawks trailed 54-45 at halftime, but Oglesby scored 21 points in the second half as CVCC rallied to win on Saturday. He made seven 3-pointers, five of those in the second half.

Five Red Hawk players scored 10 or more points, including Oglesby, Hughston Finklea (15 points), Dorieon Suggs (12), Isayah Johnson (11) and Caleb Bryson (10).

Klay Brown paced Combine Academy with 22 points and Josh Elmore added 18 points.

In Friday’s game in Hudson, Moravian Prep beat CVCC 78-75 behind 18 points from Hunter Meyer.

Myles Williams paced CVCC with a team-high 17 points, and Steve Ruszala and Oglesby also reached double digits with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Bryce Foggins scored 10 points for Moravian Prep.

Moravian Prep led 35-32 at halftime, scoring 15 of its first-half points on 3-pointers.

CVCC next plays Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home, facing CCC&TI in the Tarlton Complex.
