MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Bryant & Stratton scores 100, beats Red Hawks

HICKORY – Paced by three players with 19 points each, visiting Bryant & Stratton rolled past Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) 100-78 in men’s basketball on Saturday.

Gerald Simpkins, Daryus Evans and Caleb Miles each approached 20 points in a win by the Bobcats (15-6, 11-3 Region X) at the Tarlton Complex.

Sophomore Myles Williams paced the Red Hawks (9-13, 4-9) with 20 points, while Marcus Talley added 14 points and Steve Ruszala added 10 for CVCC.

The Bobcats led 29-11 midway through the first half, but the Red Hawks whittled away at their deficit by outscoring Bryant & Stratton 19-10 in the final six minutes of the half.

Bryant & Stratton led 52-37 at halftime.

CVCC got within 12 points but no closer.

The Red Hawks’ next game is Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a visit by Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College.
