HICKORY – Freshman Zharia Brown set a new career-high in scoring and Shaniya Lester had another 20-point game as Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) picked up a 100-56 women’s basketball victory Saturday over Clinton Junior College.
Brown scored 19 points and Lester had 21 — her fourth straight game with 20 or more – as the 18th-ranked Red Hawks (14-4, 9-1 Region X) scored 100 points for the second time this season.
CVCC had four other players in double-figure scoring at the Tarlton Complex — Nikkyana McCaskill (14 points), Tanisha Wall (13 points), Joyous Wilson (12 points) and Jada Reid (12 points).
After leading 29-12 after one quarter, CVCC had a 14-0 run to take the lead for good over the Golden Bears (5-10, 5-7).
Jada Reid’s layup with 38.3 seconds to play puts the Red Hawks over the century mark for the first time since they beat North Greenville’s junior varsity 112-30 to open the season.
Tanaja Steveson led Clinton with 25 points.
CVCC will be on the road Thursday for its next game, facing Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College at 5:30 p.m.
