MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Red Hawks grab 17th victory of season

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The Catawba Valley Community College men’s season continues on Sunday with a fifth consecutive road game, a 3 p.m. battle with Vance Granville Community College.

The Red Hawks grabbed another win, their 17th of the season, on Wednesday night when they halted a three-game losing streak by beating Patrick Henry Community College 80-72.

Jordan Powell, a sophomore from Hartford, Conn., paced the Red Hawks (17-8, 9-7 Region X) with 21 points, while Jonathan McFall added 19 points off the bench.

CVCC trailed 39-35 at the half with Powell and McFall each scoring nine first-half points against the Patriots (10-10, 6-8).

Behind 12 points from Powell and 10 points each from McFall and guard Byron Sanders, CVCC rallied in the second half to win its ninth conference game of the season.

Sanders scored 12 points for the Red Hawks.
