LRU (11-10) faces league-leading Anderson on Saturday in Hickory

HICKORY – The Lenoir-Rhyne University women are back above .500 as they prepare for a conference home game on Saturday against Anderson (S.C.).

Anderson is leading the South Atlantic Conference race and plays the Bears at 2 p.m. in Shuford Gym.

LRU improved to 11-10 overall and 6-7 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) on Wednesday night by going on the road and edging Newberry (S.C.) 67-63.

Making her second straight of the season, senior Ashley Rodriguez (from Orlando, Fla.) led the Bears’ win by scoring a season-high 13 points. Alyssa Wagner scored 11 and Madeline Hardy had 10 for LRU.

Kennedy Weigt made six free throws and had nine assists for the Bears, who left Newberry at 13-8 overall and 7-7 in the SAC.

LRU forced 19 turnovers and held the Wolves to 40.7 percent shooting.

Regan McCarty led Newberry with 17 poins and seven rebounds.

The Bears have won seven of their 10 road games this season.

LRU is in seventh place in the SAC, a half-game back of Newberry with Anderson (S.C.) at 14-0 in conference games and three games up on second-place Wingate.
