NEWTON — Hickory Post 48 rides a three-game win streak into Cherryville on Monday night after sweeping a home doubleheader on Sunday over Henderson County.

Post 48 won the first game at Henkel-Alley Field at the Legion Fairgrounds 3-2 and took the night cap 9-3 to improve to 4-4.

Eli Moser pitched 6 1/3 innings, checking Henderson County on two earned runs, and Luke Durham picked up a save in the first game.

Moser drove in two runs for Hickory and Carrington Chapman, Pierson Hanvey and Kevin Shuford each had hits and scored for Post 48.

In the second game, Hickory batted around in the fourth inning and scored eight runs to break open a game it led early 1-0.

The big at-bat came after a weather delay of an hour.

Hanvey was the winning pitcher, throwing five scoreless innings, and Bryce Stober had two hits for Post 48.

Hickory’s game on Monday night is at 7 p.m. at Cherryville High, where Post 100 had back-to-back games washed out by rain on Saturday (against Burke County) and on Sunday (against Maiden).

Post 48’s other game this week comes Thursday at South Point High (7 p.m.) against the Gaston Braves.
