CHERRYVILLE – No one has stopped Maiden Post 240 in American Legion baseball this season other than the rain.
The Salamanders’ nine-inning game at Cherryville scheduled on Sunday night, which would have been their fifth game in five nights, was not played because of wet weather at Cherryville High.

Maiden (5-0) — off to the best start in Post 240 history — plays Gastonia Post 123 on Monday night at Maiden High at 7 p.m.
Sunday’s rainout was the fourth this season for the Salamanders, who moved their opening game against Kings Mountain on May 25 to Bandys (won 9-2) due to wet field conditions at Maiden.
Maiden’s second game, against Lincoln County, was rained out and then made up on May 30 at East Lincoln (8-0 win).
The game Sunday was originally scheduled on May 27 at Cherryville and rained out, and last Monday’s game at Hickory Post 48 was washed out and reset for June 22 at the Legion Fairgrounds.
Head coach David Williams’ Salamanders have two other games this week – a twinbill on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. start at Belmont Abbey College against Belmont Post 144/266.
After those games in Gaston County, Post 240 will be idle until facing Mint Hill at Maiden High on June 14.
