FORT MEYERS, Fla. – Former Hickory High and Charlotte baseball star Zach Jarrett got into the Baltimore Orioles’ lineup on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox.

Jarrett, who hit .277 with 14 home runs and 72 RBIs last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), pinch hit in the Orioles’ 9-1 victory and got a hit.

He’s played two seasons in the minor leagues and hit .261 with 16 home runs and 79 RBIs.

Jarrett was assigned to the major league club on March 1, joining former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey – a first-round draft pick in 2013 by Baltimore – in spring training.

On Sunday, the Orioles optioned Harvey to Triple-A Norfolk (Va.), opting to give him an opportunity to throw more innings consistently as he works his way back from an injury.
