HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Draughn wins first Northwestern Foothills 2A golf match of season

Some baseball game start times for Tuesday moved up

Draughn High started the Northwestern Foothills 2A boys’ golf season with a 10-stroke victory on Monday at Hampton Heights.

The Wildcats, led by an 83 by Dillon Robinson, shot 345 and beat Hibriten by 10 strokes and Fred T. Foard by 11.

Maddox Whittington of Hibriten shared medalist with Carson Witherspoon of Patton with a round of 76.

Max Cranford’s 80 paced Fred T. Foard.

The next conference match is Monday at the Catawba Country Club.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lake Norman Charter 3, Christ The King 1

Brianna Hatch, Kasey Hahn and Annie Poteat each scored for the Knights as they won on the road after falling behind 1-0 on an own goal.

Gabbi Soos had an assist on Hatch’s goal that tied it at 1 and Olivia Haraldsson had assists on goals by Hahn and Poteat.

Goalkeeper Kaela Rasenberger made three saves for Lake Norman Charter.

The Knights play their first home match of the season on Tueday at 3:45 p.m., facing Community School of Davidson at Bradford Park.

BOYS LACROSSE

Lake Norman Charter 20, Mooresville 1

Reid Mitchell’s five goals sparked the Knights to a home victory with Micah Stechmiller adding four goals.

Lake Norman Charter will play Christ The King on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lake Norman Charter.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Lake Norman Charter 16, Mooresville 6

Seniors Morgan Bordeaux and Madison Hlweicki each scored five goals and had an assist, leading the Knights to a home victory.

Freshman Peyton Graham and sophomore Emma Rhines each added two goals for Lake Norman Charter and also scoring were freshman Bryn Shepler and Morgan Thomas.

Abby Rollins, a sophomore goalie, had six saves for the Knights.

Lake Norman Charter plays Hough at Lake Norman Charter on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Game times moved up, etc.

The start time of the West Lincoln at East Lincoln game in the South Fork 2A on Tuesday has been moved up to 4:30 p.m., and the start time for Lincolnton at North Lincoln has been moved up to 5 p.m.

Also in the South Fork 2A, the game site for Bandys versus Lake Norman Charter has been moved to Bandys (7 p.m.), and Maiden will be at Newton-Conover (7 p.m.) in another site change.

Poor field conditions at Maiden have caused the Blue Devils to move to 12 away games to start the season, including all seven league games.

In the Northwestern Foothills 2A, the start time of East Burke at Fred T. Foard on Tuesday is now 4:15 p.m.

In the Northwestern 3A-4A, Tuesday’s Freedom at Hickory game has been moved to Wednesday.

Fred T. Foard has announced its home baseball game with Bandys, postponed by rain last Friday, will be played March 23 at noon at Foard.

St. Stephens has moved its home Northwestern 3A-4A game scheduled Friday against Hickory to Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Indians have also reset a game rained out against Newton-Conover for April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Softball: East Burke and Fred T. Foard will not play their Northwestern Foothills 2A opener on Tuesday. A makeup date has not been determined for the game.

Alexander Central’s game at South Caldwell has been moved up to 4:30 p.m.

Girls soccer: East Burke announced its match on Wednesday at South Caldwell will now begin at 4:45 p.m.

Davie County 7, Alexander Central 1 (Saturday)

Joe Johnson and Troy Clary each drove in two runs as the War Eagles won a non-league game, holding the Cougars to four hits.

Dalton Stikeleather, Bryson Hammer, Andrew Auton and Easton Rhoney had hits for Alexander Central and Rhoney drove in a run.

Spencer Nifong went five innings for Davie County, gaining a win after allowing three hits and one earned run. He struck out eight and walked one.

Tristan Millsaps took the loss for the Cougars, giving up three hits and three earned runs and walking three and striking out three over 3 2/3 innings.

The Cougars open Northwestern 3A-4A play on Tuesday at South Caldwell. Start time for the game has been moved to 4 p.m.

South Caldwell 10, Draughn 0 (Saturday)

Isaac Bush threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Spartans won a non-conference game played at Freedom. He struck out nine and walked one.

Ian Moretz went 2-for-2 with five RBIs for South Caldwell, which won with four hits.

The Spartans scored two runs in the first inning, four in the third inning and four in the fourth inning.

South Caldwell begins Northwestern 3A-4A play on Tuesday at home against Alexander Central. The start time for the game has been moved up to 4 p.m.
