MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Memphis beats Norfolk as Jarrett goes 0-for-3

Zach Jarrett was again No. 2 in the Norfolk (Va.) batting order on Thursday night, going 0-for-3 as the visiting Tides fell 8-4 in a Triple-A game.

Jarrett started in centerfield, walked once and struck out twice.

His batting average dipped to .253.

He has 333 hits as a pro, 33 of them home runs, and the Tides will continue the series in Memphis with games Friday through Sunday.

The Tides will return to Charlotte for a six-game series from Aug. 17-22.

Norfolk is 24-35 and in seventh place (last) in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 17 games behind division-leading Durham.

Five of the six teams trailing Durham are at least 10 games behind.

Jarrett was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round. He was a multiple sports star at Hickory High and starred in college baseball at Charlotte.
