MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Jarrett walks twice, scores run but Memphis edges Norfolk

Memphis turned back visiting Norfolk (Va.) 12-6 on Sunday in Triple-A baseball, limiting Zach Jarrett to no hits, two walks and a run scored.

Jarrett batted No. 2 in the Tides’ batting order, going 0-for-3, and heads into the next series still batting .258 this season with seven home reuns and 22 RBIs.

Norfolk is off on Monday before starting a six-game series in Gwinett (Ga.) on Tuesday.

The Tides (24-38) share sixth place with Charlotte in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, and both are 19 games back of division-leading Durham.

Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19, and he has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020).

Five of the six teams trailing Durham are at least 11 games behind.

Jarrett was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round.

The Tides will return to Charlotte for a six-game series from Aug. 17-22.
