Hayden Deal had a pretty solid start on Sunday but did not gain a decision in his first shot at reaching 20 career pro wins.
He started for the Mississippi Braves against Tennessee on the road in a Double-A game that the host team won 6-3.
Deal pitched five innings, gave up four hits, two runs (both earned), walked one and struck out four.
He is 2-2 this season after 13 starts with the Braves with an ERA of 4.00 and 52 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched.
As a pro, the former Bandys High star is now 19-15 with an ERA of 3.12 after 77 pro games — 40 of them starts — and he has 260 strikeouts in 291 2/3 innings.
On Sunday, he threw strikes on 51 of his 70 pitches, facing 20 batters before a crowd of 3,595.
Mississippi is 40-26 and leads the Double-A South’s Southern Division by four games over Pensacola (Fla.).
The Braves are off on Monday, then start a six-game series on Tuesday at Biloxi (Miss.). Deal should get a start in that series.
