Zach Jarrett was not in the lineup on Wednesday night when Jacksonville (Fla.) beat Norfolk (Va.) 7-3 in Triple-A baseball.
Jarrett, a former multi-sport star at Hickory High, played Tuesday night in the series opener in Norfolk. He went 0-4 and the Tides won 7-2 before a crowd of 3,648.
The series continues Thursday in Norfolk with a 12:05 p.m. start.
Jarrett is hitting .231 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs this season. As the end of his fourth pro season ends (there were no minor league games in 2020), he has played in 388 games with 1,393 at-bats, 36 home runs and 160 RBIs.
He is a career .257 hitter.
On Tuesday night, Jarrett batted seventh in the Norfolk order and started in centerfield.
Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey did not pitch last week for the Tides and did not get into the games on Tuesday and Wednesday. He is now in Norfolk as part of a continuing rehab assignment (eight minor league games with a 2-1 record and 8.10 ERA with 10 innings pitched and seven strikeouts).
It is not likely that the Baltimore Orioles will return Harvey to the big leagues this season.
The Tides are 476-69 and in sixth place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 27 games back of Durham. They will not make the playoffs and will finish ahead of only Charlotte in the final standings.
After this week’s series with Jacksonville, the Tides will play five games at Charlotte (starting Sept. 22) and then five games at home against Durham (starting Sept. 29).
Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19.
He has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020), after being drafted by the club in 2017 in the 28th round.
