Hayden Deal added his first hold of the season on Wednesday night for the Mississippi Braves, who fell 6-5 at Chattanooga (Tenn.).
Deal came on in relief in the seventh inning and threw one inning. He gave up two hits, three runs (two earned), walked three and did not have any strikeouts.
A former star at Bandys High, he is nearing the end of his fourth pro season (there was no minor league season in 2020).
Deal has posted these career numbers: 87 games, 20-15 record, 3.12 ERA, 44 starts, five saves and 280 strikeouts in 317 innings.
This season, Deal is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.77 with 72 strikeouts in 88 1/3 innings. He has made 17 starts,
In his appearance on Wednesday, he faced eight batters and threw strikes on 15 of his 34 pitches.
The series at Chattanooga continues through Sunday.
With only four games left in the regular season Mississippi is 66-43 and has already clinched a Double-A South’s South Division title. The Braves are 9 1/2 games ahead of Montgomery (Ala.) and 10 ahead of Pensacola (Fla.).
Mississippi lists championship games — all with sites and opponents to be announced — for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of next week.
