Batting third in the lineup, Zach Jarrett went 1-for-6 on Tuesday night as Norfolk (Va.) opened a Triple-A series at Charlotte, falling 5-4 in 13 innings.
Jarrett started in centerfield and struck out once and left four runners stranded, dropping his batting average to .279. He has four home runs and 18 RBIs this season.
Game 2 of a six-game series is Wednesday at 7:04 p.m. in Charlotte.
Norfolk is 20-26 and in fifth place in the Triple-A East Southern Division, 11 games back of division-leading Durham.
Charlotte is 19-28 and in sixth place, 12 1/2 games behind Durham.
Games times through Saturday are 7:04 p.m., and Sunday’s series finale begins at 6:05 p.m.

Jarrett was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 after starring in college at Charlotte. The O’s picked him in the 28th round.
