NEWTON – Newton-Conover High’s Tylor Stinson is this week’s WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award winner.
Stinson, a 6-foot, 225-pound senior running back, won the Week 6 award after gaining 138 yards on 17 carries and scoring four touchdowns – three in the second half – of the Red Devils’ 35-14 home victory over Lincolnton.
He scored on runs of 1, 33, 10 and 21 yards as Newton-Conover overcame a 14-13 halftime deficit to win a South Fork 2A game at Gurley Stadium.
Unofficially, Stinson has 68 carries for 623 yards for the Red Devils (4-1, 1-0) with 11 rushing TDs.
The award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
Newton-Conover’s next game is Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Bandys in a South Fork 2A battle.
