NEWTON – Corey Siemer, a sophomore running back who sparked Fred T. Foard High’s come-from-behind victory last Thursday night at North Lincoln, is this week’s WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award winner.
Siemer ran for 197 yards, had 250 yards in total offense and scored two touchdowns as the Tigers (2-1) rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat the Knights 40-26.
North Lincoln built a 17-0 lead in Thursday night’s game before Foard rallied.
Siemer’s 47-yard scoring run with one minute, 41 seconds left to play in the third quarter put the Tigers ahead 33-19.
The Tigers’ next game is Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at home against West Lincoln (2-0).
Siemer is this season’s third winner of the Golden Helmet Award (see graphic for other weekly winners).
The award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
