HIGH SCHOOLS: Watauga names head coaches for baseball, girls’ golf

BOONE – Watauga High has hired a new varsity baseball head coach and a new head coach for girls’ varsity golf and both played for the Pioneers.

Ethan Greene, a former starting quarterback for Watauga who was a pitching ace as a senior for the Pioneers, has been promoted from head junior varsity baseball coach to replace Seth Freeman.

Freeman resigned after two seasons that included Watauga going 10-15 overall last season and 9-5 in the Northwestern 3A-4A.

Greene played college baseball at Pfeiffer, where is the career leader in pitching wins (27). He was an assistant to Freeman last season with the Watauga varsity.

Greene was the Pioneers’ pitching ace under former head coach Pete Hardee in 2012 as senior.

The new girls’ golf head coach is Tasha Wilson, who played golf, basketball and softball for the Pioneers before going to Wingate.

She replaces Jamie Wilson.
