MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Ex-Bandys lefty goes 1-1 in last two outings

ORLANDO, Fla. – Former Bandys High pitcher Hayden Deal picked up a loss and a win last week for the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Braves.

Deal, a 6-foot-4 left-hander, was the losing pitcher last Thursday in an 11-6 loss to the Yankees-West, going two-thirds of an inning in relief and allowing six hits, six earned runs and walking one.

He bounced back on Saturday in a 7-6 victory in 11 innings over the GCL Phillies to gain his second win of the season. He threw two innings and gave up two hits.

Through nine games in the minor leagues, his record was 2-2 with two saves with an ERA of 5.79. He had thrown 14 innings, allowed 15 runs (nine earned) with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

Deal pitched after Presbyterian College after pitching at Bandys. As a senior at PC, he made a Big South-high 31 appearances.

He was signed by the Braves at a tryout at Bandys after throwing about 10 pitches and reported to the GCL Braves within 48 hours after signing.

The GCL Braves, who play their home games at Walt Disney World, are 20-18 and in first place in the GCL Northeast Division, 2 ½ games up on the Yankees-East, with 22 games left to play heading into Wednesday.

The final game of the GCL season is Sept. 2
