HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey made his fifth start of the season on Wednesday as Bowie won 8-2 at Altoona (Pa.), picking up his first win of the season. He went five innings, allowing five hits, two runs (both earned) with no walks and two strikeouts as the Baysox improved to 15-16 in the Eastern League.

Harvey also hit one batter, facing 19 overall, and he threw strikes on 51 of his 81 pitches before a crowd of 7,577.

After five starts, Harvey is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.63. He has thrown 17 1/3 innings, allowed 17 hits, seven runs (all earned), hit two batters, walked five and struck out 12.

If he works after five days of rest, his next start would come against Harrisburg (Pa.) at Bowie on Monday night

JARRETT

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett is a former Hickory High and Charlotte star for the Shorebirds (21-11), who fell 7-4 on the road on Wednesday at Lexington (Ky.).

Jarrett started in left field and batted third in the lineup, going 2-for-4 with a double.

He’s hitting .294 in 29 games with seven home runs and 15 RBIs, and he’s hitting .205 in his last 10 games with no home runs, one RBI and 17 strikeouts.

Jarrett is 15th in hitting among South Atlantic League (SAL) hitters and remains tied for second in the league in home runs (7) with two Asheville hitters, Casey Golden and Chad Spanberger. Seuly Matias of Lexington (Ky.) has eight home runs to lead the SAL.

Jarrett won an award as Minor League Player of the Month for the Baltimore Orioles for the month of April.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal is a relief pitcher for the Braves (19-12), who beat Augusta (Ga.) on Wednesday night 6-3 on the road.

Deal last pitched on Saturday night, going two innings – he came in for Jacob Belinda after he’d blown a save — and Deal faced eight batters. He struck out five of those, giving up no walks and no runs and hitting one batter while throwing strikes on 22 of his 35 pitches before a crowd of 3,542.

He has thrown 9 1/3 innings and in five games this season with an ERA of 1.93 with two walks and 12 strikeouts.
