ICARD – The championship games of the Northwestern Foothills 2A basketball tournament have been moved to Saturday afternoon.

The girls’ title game at 2 p.m. will pit No. 2 seed Bunker Hill (20-6) against top seed East Burke (23-3) at East Burke (gates open at 1 p.m.).

The boys’ title game follows with third-seeded Patton (18-7) facing No. 1 seed Hibriten (23-2).

The championship games were originally scheduled on Friday but bad weather arrived Thursday afternoon, prompting league officials to go ahead and shift the title games to Saturday.

The tournaments started Tuesday at higher-seeds and then shifted to East Burke, where four semifinals were to be played on Thursday.

Because of the forecast for bad weather, those four games were moved up and played on Wednesday.

Both girls’ and boys’ finalist will get into the state 2A playoffs. The seeding for those tournaments will be out Sunday night, a delay of a day.

The pairings have been delayed because the North Carolina Athletic Association (NCHSAA) decided to give conferences Saturday to complete their tournaments. The original deadline for indicating team finishes was Friday.
