MARION – The Northwestern 3A-4A basketball tournament title games are now going to be played on Saturday afternoon.
League officials said via email on Friday the championships — originally scheduled on Friday night at McDowell High — have moved to Saturday after inclement weather on Thursday in the region.
The girls’ champion between No. 3 Watauga (17-7) and No. 1 Freedom (24-0) tips at 3 p.m., with the boys’ final – No. 3 Alexander Central (16-10) against No. 1 Freedom (23-1) will then be played.
Freedom’s girls swept Watauga in the regular season, winning 62-49 in Boone and 76-47 in Morganton.
Freedom’s boys swept Alexander Central with wins of 72-58 at Freedom and 83-65 at Alexander Central.
