Former Hickory High and Charlotte star Zach Jarrett went 1-for-3 on Wednesday night with a walk in a 2-1 home loss to Charleston (S.C.) before 2,918.

He was the left fielder for the Shorebirds and hit third in the lineup.

Jarrett is hitting .285 with 20 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 54 RBIs in 101 games this season. In his last 10 games, he is hitting .189 with no home runs and no RBIs.

He has 111 hits, tying him for the league lead with Oneil Cruz of West Virginia.

Delmarva is 54-52 and 19-20 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings, in fifth place at 7 ½ games behind division-leading Lakewood, N.J.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Rome’s game on Thursday night at Greenville (S.C.) was rained out and will be made up on Friday as part of a doubleheader with a 4 p.m. start.

Former Bandys High left-hander Hayden Deal has not pitched since last Thursday night when he didn’t get a decision in a 14-5 victory over visiting Columbia (S.C.). He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned), walking one and striking out seven.

Deal is 5-1 with an ERA of 2.30 in 21 appearances this season, pitching 62 2/3 innings. He’s hit four batters, intentionally walked one and walked 11 to go with 69 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .207 against him this season.

In his last 10 outings, he’s 1-1 with an ERA of 2.58, pitching 38 1/3 innings with four walks and 34 strikeouts.

Deal is four strikeouts away from 100 in his pro career with 96 in 93 1/3 innings.

He is not listed as a probable starter for Rome’s games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

The Braves are 57-50 overall and 17-21 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings and are in fifth place at 4 ½ games behind Lexington (Ky.)

Rome won a first-half title, securing a postseason berth.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey is now throwing some and is may pitch in a game in Florida on Saturday.

He is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

When he twisted to avoid being struck by the ball, his right shoulder popped out of socket.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8).

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

The visiting Baysox nipped Akron (Ohio) 4-3 on Thursday night before 3,509 and improved to 50-58 in the Eastern League.
