SMAC 2A-3A BASEBALL: East Rutherford extends win streak to 8 games

FOREST CITY – East Rutherford High is riding an eight-game baseball win streak after downing visiting Shelby 4-1 on Thursday night in a South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A game.

The Cavs (13-2, 10-2) came into the game sharing the league lead with R-S Central.

East Rutherford’s streak includes consecutive victories over R-S Central, Chase, Forestview, Kings Mountain, East Burke, Burns, Chesnee, S.C., and Shelby. The Cavs outscored those teams by a combined 82-21.

Shelby had a two-game win streak snapped by the loss, falling to 8-8 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

East Rutherford will play in the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., next week. The Cavs meet Martinsburg, W. Va., on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Waccamaw High.

Tuesday’s game is against Waccamaw (S.C.) at 2 p.m., and the Cavs match up with Canfield (Ohio) at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. James High.

East Rutherford’s final opponent at the beach, on Thursday, is to be announced.

Shelby is playing host to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Easter tournament, which begins on Monday.
