VALDESE – Draughn High won its third straight game and for the sixth time in seven games on Tuesday night, beating visiting Kings Mountain 6-2 in a South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A game.
The Wildcats (9-5, 7-5) are tied for fourth place with Kings Mountain — a half-game back of Crest — after a third consecutive win. They beat McDowell and Chase in the two previous games, scoring 11 runs in each game.
Kings Mountain dropped to 7-8 overall and 7-5.
Every team in the league except Crest is at least three games behind co-leaders R-S Central and East Rutherford. The SMAC 2A-3A plays a 16-game schedule.
Draughn faces rival East Burke on the road Thursday at 7 p.m. in a league game and Kings Mountain will be at home the same night to play Crest at 7 p.m.
