SHELBY – John Matt Camp threw a one-hitter, striking out nine, as Shelby High beat Ashbrook 5-2 on Thursday afternoon to win fifth place in the Shelby Easter baseball tournament.
The Golden Lions (9-10) snapped a three-game losing streak by winning and overcame six errors to beat the Green Wave, which had its only hit in the seventh inning.
Shelby returns to South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A play next week. The Golden Lions are 5-8 and in seventh place and they have three conference games left.
Burns visits Shelby on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and the Golden Lions play a non-league game on Thursday at home against Greater Cabarrus.
Shelby goes to Draughn on May 2 and closes the regular season on May 4 at home against Crest.
