West Lincoln High rolled past visiting East Lincoln 12-2 on Friday in the game that decided the regular season championship in Southern District 7 Athletic 2A girls’ softball.
The Rebels finished 11-3 to sit atop the standings and the Mustangs finished second at 11-3 in league games.
West Lincoln will be the top seed for next week’s conference tournament – pairings should be released on Saturday – and will play No. 8 Lincolnton at home in the opening round.
As the No. 2 seed, East Lincoln gets a home game against No. 7 seed Newton-Conover.
There was one tie in the standings – Bunker Hill and Maiden for third place – and they split in the regular season. The tiebreaker, a comparison of records against teams higher in the standings should net this: Bunker Hill as the No. 3 and Maiden as the No. 4.
Bunker Hill and Maiden each split with West Lincoln, but Bunker Hill split with East Lincoln and the Mustangs swept Maiden.
Bandys 2, Newton-Conover 1: The Trojans won at home to finish 5-9 in the conference and in sixth place.
Maiden 18, Lincolnton 3: The Blue Devils won at home and ended up at 9-5 in the league, tied for third with Bunker Hill.
Bunker Hill 10, West Caldwell 0: The Bears won at home to close 9-5 in conference play and tie Maiden for third place.
