MINGO BAY CLASSIC: Maiden’s pitching leads to third victory at the beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Maiden High’s pitching and the beach go together well.

The Blue Devils won their third game in the Mingo Bay Classic on Thursday, edging Immaculate Heart Central (N.Y.) 4-2 when Bryson Ledford threw a five-hitter.

Maiden (11-7) has allowed eight hits in the tournament and has outscored opponents 39-9 in stretching its win streak to seven.

The Blue Devils scored a run in the first inning and three more in the sixth inning to go up 4-0. Immaculate scored two runs in the seventh.

Maiden finished with four hits and won despite making three errors.

Caden O’brien drove in two runs, Taylor Tibbs went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Chantz London had the other Blue Devils hit.

The Blue Devils have a fourth game in the Mingo Bay on Friday against an opponent to be determined at a time to be determined.

Maiden is 7-5 in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A and tied with Bunker Hill with two conference games left.

The Blue Devils have three games when they return home to close the regular season. They have Senior Night on Monday, facing St. Stephens at 7 p.m.

The final two league games are Tuesday at league-leading East Lincoln at 7 p.m. and Friday at home against Lincolnton.
