MINGO BAY CLASSIC: Maiden’s O’brien 1-hits team from New York

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Caden O’brien had another big day for Maiden High’s baseball team on Wednesday.

Playing in the Mingo Bay Classic, the Blue Devils romped past Bishop Grimes (N.Y.) 11-1 in five innings at Socastee High. They scored five runs in the first inning and six in the second inning.

O’brien would have needed only two runs to win. He threw five innings, allowing one hit, one run, walking one and striking out 11.

Taylor Tibbs went 2-for-3 with an RBI, O’brien went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Carlos Reynoso went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs.

Maiden (10-7) reached double-digit wins for the sixth straight season by winning.

The Blue Devils meet Immaculate Heart Central of Watertown, N.Y., today at 1:30 p.m.

Maiden won its first game at the Mingo Bay on Tuesday, beating Watertown, N.Y., 2-0.

East Rutherford 14, Waccamaw, S.C. 6 — The Cavs won their second game at the tournament after having nipped Martinsburg, W. Va., 10-7 in their opener on Tuesday night.

East Rutherford plays Canfield (Ohio) today at 11 a.m. St. James High.

Wednesday’s game was played at Waccamaw High.
