CRAWDADS: RiverDogs’ pitching proves too much for Hickory in series opener

HICKORY – Three RiverDogs pitchers bit Hickory hard on Wednesday night, holding the Crawdads to five hits in an 11-2 South Atlantic League (SAL) baseball win at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Charleston (S.C.) starter Jio Orozco went five innings and had early support when the RiverDogs (16-17) scored two runs in the first inning, four in the third inning and three in the seventh inning to go up 9-0.

Hickory starter Kyle Cody was touched for five runs (three earned) on six hits and walked three and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings.

The RiverDogs outhit the Crawdads 13-5 and Hickory (12-20) went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The series continues on Thursday with a 7 p.m. game and the series finale is Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Greensboro arrives for a four-game series with Saturday’s game at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s game at 3 p.m.
