HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University signed two men’s basketball players this week.
The Bears announced they’ve landed point guard Mason Hawks of North Surry High and Irmo (S.C.) High start R.J. Gunn, bringing their recruit class for next season to three.
Hawks is a three-time all-conference player who, as a senior, led the Greyhounds to a state 2A title. He was the Western Piedmont 2A Player of the Year last season and closed his prep career with more than 1,500 points and 500 assists.
Last season, Hawks averaged 20 points and six assists per game, and he closed his high school career playing in the East-West All-Star game in Greensboro.
Gunn averaged 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals last season for Irmo.
LRU head coach Everick Sullivan earlier announced the Bears have signed Catawba Valley Community College’s Emmauel Wembi.
