ROCK HILL, S.C. – Both weekly winners in women’s lacrosse in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) are from Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Conference officials announced Monday the weekly Offensive Player of The Week award goes to Gabby Sousa of the Bears and teammate Ines Flueck won the Defensive Player of The Week award.

The Bears (6-7, 6-o) return to action Wednesday on the road, facing Catawba (9-5, 5-0) at 4 p.m. in Salisbury in a league match.

Sousa, a junior attacker from Delran, N.J., won the weekly award for the second time this year while Flueck picked up her third weekly award of the year.

They led LRU to two SAC wins last week, 16-4 over Mars Hill and 14-4 over Lincoln Memorial.

Sousa had 10 goals and two assists for the week, including a six-score performance against the Lions. She leads the Bears in goals scored (44) and total points (53). A preseason all-league honoree, Sousa now has 113 career scores.

Flueck, a senior goalkeeper from Coppell, Tex., made 12 saves last week while allowing just eight goals in the two victories. She has a 11.24 goals-against average – third in the league – to go along with 91 saves.

Flueck is the Bears’ all-time leader in stops (549).
