COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Newberry extends Lenoir-Rhyne’s losing streak to 3

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry extended a losing streak by the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University women in volleyball to three matches on Tuesday, beating the Bears 3-0 in a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) match.

The Bears dropped to 12-6 overall and 6-5 in the league after falling on the road.

Newberry improved to 8-11 overall and 3-9 in the SAC.

LRU — after dropping from fourth place to sixth in the league — next plays conference foe Coker at LRU on Thursday at 7 p.m., and Wingate then visits LRU for an SAC match on Friday (7 p.m.)

Sophomore Taylor Prall led the Bears on Tuesday night with 14 kills while Angelica Arroyo added eight kills and Madison Asher and Hannah Houston each had five.

Helen Hamilton and Ashley Hawkins had 11 digs and Arroyo added 10 for LRU while Arroyo and Braelyn Faust each had two blocks.

Newberry’s Toni-Anne Whitlow had 11 kills and Lacie Wood had eight kills.

LRU beat Newberry in Hickory 3-0 on Sept. 4.
