Jay Goldsmith, who started for two years at LRU and a 2015 graduate, has been coaching at Methodist.

“I am thrilled to welcome Jay Goldsmith back home,” Paradine said in an LRU press release. “Jay brings everything you want to see in a young coach; energy, enthusiasm, passion, knowledge and integrity.

“I always considered Jay a coach on the field during his playing days here at LR and I look forward to him teaching our young men.”

Goldsmith appeared in 30 matches for the Bears, scoring 88 points on 68 goals and 20 assists. He was a second-team All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) pick in 2014, and set a single-match record with seven goals in a match. He was drafted by the Charlotte Hounds of the MLL.

Before coming to LRU as a player, Goldsmith played two seasons for NCAA Division III power Lynchburg College.

In 2017, Goldsmith began coaching at the college level, helping guide Methodist to a 15-3 record and a conference tournament title.

“The lacrosse program as well as the university has made great strides recently and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Goldsmith said in the press release.

LRU reached the NCAA Division II Final Four last season and won 17 matches.
