ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University has been picked to finish eighth in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) in volleyball this season.

The Bears were projected to finish ahead of Coker, Catawba and Newberry (S.C.) in a 12-team league race that head coaches say Wingate is favored to win.

Wingate is the preseason pick as league champion for the 13th straight season, gaining 10 first-place votes. Anderson (S.C.), picked to finish second, got one first-place vote.

Wingate went 18-2 last year in the league and 27-4 overall, finishing second behind Anderson in the regular-season standings, and they fell to Flagler College in the title match of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.

Taylor Prall, a 6-foot sophomore outside hitter from Tipp City, Ohio, was the only preseason All-SAC selection for LRU. She made the second team.

LRU opens its season on Aug. 31 at Lees-McRae (1 p.m.).

The Bears’ Red & White match is Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. in Shuford Gym.
