ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University women — who will pursue double-digit wins after reaching that for 10 straight seasons — are picked to finish fourth this season in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s soccer.

The conference’s head coaches voted on projected team finishes and preseason All-SAC with both released on Monday by the league officials.

Carson-Newman, last season’s NCAA Division II runner-up, got all 10 first-place votes as the favorite to win the league. The Eagles were picked to finish ahead of Queens, Wingate and LRU.

LRU has three preseason All-SAC picks — senior forward Abbie Brown of Leeds England, junior midfielder Abigael McGarel of Morristown, Tenn., and junior defender Christian Shimshock of Asheville.

Brown led the Bears in goals scored (seven), assists (five) and total points (19) last season.

LRU opens its season Aug. 30 at Lees-McRae at 7 p.m., and the Bears’ home opener is Sept. 1 against USC Aiken at 7 p.m.
