MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Lenoir-Rhyne nips Limestone, stops 9-game skid

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s men took control over the final 2 ½ minutes Saturday to edge Limestone 71-60 and snap a nine-game basketball losing streak that dated back to last season.

The Bears went on a 13-1 run over the final two minutes, 18 seconds at Shuford Memorial Gym to gain their first victory of the season.

LRU improved to 1-4 and Limestone dropped to 3-3.

Junior guard Djibril Diallo scored 18 points to lead the Bears while freshman guard Darius Simmons came off the bench to score15 points.

Kenny Hairston led the Saints with 15 points per game. He came in averaging 24, and Limestone came in averaging 84 points per game.

The Bears’ next game is Wednesday at 8 p.m. on the road for a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) game against Coker in Hartsville, S.C.
