HICKORY – Madi Suddreth’s highest-scoring college game – 35 points with 18 of those in the opening quarter – sparked Lenoir-Rhyne University’s basketball victory on Saturday.
The Bears beat Lees-McRae 98-80 at Shuford Memorial Gym, evening their record at 3-3.
Suddreth, a junior who starred in high school at Alexander Central, also had 10 rebounds and five assists as LRU had its best-scoring game in 11 years.
LRU led 52-23 by halftime, but Lees-McRae stayed in the game by hitting 16 3-pointers.
Karli Mason had 24 points to lead Lees-McRae(1-3), hitting eight 3-pointers.
The Bears’ Cassidy Joyner, a senior guard, had 17 points and six rebounds.
LRU shot 50 percent en route to its highest-scoring game since beating Ashland 98-89 in the 2006-07 season.
The Bears’ next game is a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) battle on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Coker in Hartsville, S.C.
