COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Bears’ Crews picked as Offensive Player of Week in SAC

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University freshman running back Caine Crews was selected Monday as the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

A freshman from Brunswick, Ga., he ran for a career-high 129 yards on 12 carries in the Bears’ 63-21 win over Catawba last Saturday.

Crews had a long run of 51 yards and an average of 10.8 yards per carry en route to the first 100-yard game of his career. Behind his running, LRU secured a 7-0 record in SAC play to win the league title.

The Bears (10-1) got a No. 3 seed in Super Regional Two in the NCAA Division II playoffs. They will play Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hickory against sixth-seeded Florida Tech.

Bears’ Clifton Elite 20 winner

LRU’s Ronnie Clifton, a junior offensive lineman from Fort Royal, Va., was named

the SAC’s Elite 20 Award winner for football last Saturday.

This award honors the student-athlete with the top cumulative grade-point average (based on a minimum of 48 credit hours) in each of the league’s 20 team championship sports.
Clifton sports a 3.878 grade point average while majoring in finance and business management.

He has played in all 10 games for the Bears this season.
