YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s last hit on Wednesday was a game-winner that beat visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University 7-6 in baseball.

EWALD

Cory Ewald, batting with two outs and his team down by a run, slugged a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Young Harris improved to 11-11 and left the Bears at 17-9.

Ewald drove in three runs, as did Logan Worley, and that helped Young Harris overcome a ninth-inning solo home run by LRU junior outfielder Aaron Stamper.

Stamper and junior designated hitter Matthew Freeman both drove in two runs for the Bears despite the loss.

Senior Landon Whitson, the reigning SAC Pitcher of the Week, fell to 2-1 after taking the loss.

Young Harris’ Steven Eichhorn (1-1) was credited with the win.

Stamper has hit a home run in three of his last five games and is tied for the team lead with four.

The Bears return to South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play Friday with a 6 p.m. game that opens a weekend series against Mars Hill at Bears Field.
